Can you remove a case from Trellis Law?

Yes, in most cases. Trellis (trellis.law) is a private legal research company that republishes state trial court dockets, rulings, and filings. It is not the court. Trellis has its own redaction process: it can strip a private person’s name and personal details from a case page, restrict the page from logged-out visitors, and ask search engines to stop indexing it. When a case has been sealed by the court, Trellis can take the record down entirely.

The catch is that Trellis only controls its own pages. Removing your name from Trellis does not remove the Google result that is already cached, and it does not touch UniCourt, Justia, PacerMonitor, or the people-search sites that copied the same case. Defamation Defenders handles all of it, Trellis first, then Google, Bing, and every other copy, and confirms each result is gone.

Key facts about Trellis Law case removal

  • Trellis is huge. It covers more than 3,000 state trial courts across 45 states, so civil and criminal cases that never made the news can still rank for your name.
  • Redaction and removal are different. Trellis will usually redact your name from a docket. Full deletion of the record generally requires a court order sealing the case.
  • One request per case page. Each Trellis docket URL needs its own request, submitted through Trellis’s own form. Email requests are not processed.
  • Google is a separate step. Trellis cannot remove search results. The old title and snippet stay on Google until an outdated-content request is filed and approved.
  • Trellis is rarely the only copy. The same case is often listed on 5 to 15 other docket and people-search sites.

Why a Trellis listing hurts, even if you did nothing wrong

Trellis pages are built for attorneys, but they rank in Google for ordinary names. A typical result shows your name, the court, the case type, and the filing date, and almost no one clicks through to see how the case ended.

A Trellis docket can rank right next to your LinkedIn profile, and most people never click to see how the case ended.

Employers and background checks

Recruiters Google candidates. A lawsuit or criminal docket on page one can end the conversation before you explain that you won, settled, or were never charged.

Landlords, lenders, and licensing

An eviction, debt suit, or judgment listed on Trellis can look like current risk, even when it was paid, vacated, or dismissed years ago.

Clients, partners, and dates

Business owners and professionals get vetted online constantly. A docket titled with your name invites assumptions about you or your company.

AI tools now read Trellis data

Trellis’s state court dataset is now connected to AI assistants, and ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Copilot already summarize indexed Trellis pages. If a case ranks for your name, AI can repeat it as a fact about you.

How to remove Trellis Law from Google

This is the part most people miss. Even after Trellis redacts your name, the Google result can keep showing the old title, with your name in it, for weeks or months. Here is how we clear it:

  1. Change the source first. We get the Trellis page redacted, restricted, or removed so it no longer contains your name.
  2. File outdated-content requests. We use Google’s and Bing’s outdated-content tools for every affected Trellis URL so the cached title and snippet are refreshed or dropped.
  3. Catch the variations. Trellis often has more than one URL per case (docket, rulings, documents, party pages). We find and clear each one.
  4. Verify by name search. We search your name the way an employer would and confirm the Trellis result is gone from Google, Bing, and AI answers.

Trellis redaction changes the page. Google and Bing still need outdated-content requests to drop the old title and snippet.

Which Trellis cases are easiest to remove?

We tell you up front what is realistic.

LikelihoodTypical situations
Strong candidatesSealed or expunged cases; dismissed charges and acquittals; private individuals named in civil suits; family law, eviction, and debt cases; cases where you were a victim or a minor party
Case-by-caseRecent civil lawsuits; business disputes where the company is the main party; judgments that were paid or vacated

If we do not think we can remove your Trellis listing, we will say so before you pay, not after.

Trellis removal with a sealing or expungement order

An expungement or sealing order tells the court and government agencies to restrict your record. It does not automatically update Trellis or any other private website that copied the case before the order. Those sites keep showing it until someone sends them proof.

With a signed sealing order, Trellis can remove the record entirely, not just redact your name. That makes sealed and expunged cases some of our most successful Trellis removals.

Documents that strengthen a Trellis removal request

  • Signed sealing or expungement order
  • Dismissal order, nolle prosequi, or judgment of acquittal
  • Proof of completed diversion or deferred judgment
  • Satisfaction of judgment, vacated judgment, or stipulated dismissal (civil cases)
  • Case number, court, and filing date

Don’t have a sealing order? That is a court process handled by an attorney. Redaction is still possible without one in many cases, and we can tell you which applies during the free review.

Sealing or expungement changes the official record. Every online copy still needs its own removal.

Trellis Law removal FAQs

How do I remove my case from Trellis Law?

Trellis handles removal through a redaction request submitted from each case’s docket page. Without a court order, Trellis will typically redact your name and personal information and limit public access. With a sealing order, the record can be removed entirely. We prepare and submit these requests for you, follow up, and confirm the result.

How do I remove Trellis Law from Google?

First, get the Trellis page redacted or removed so it no longer contains your name. Then file outdated-content requests with Google and Bing so the old title and snippet are dropped. Trellis cannot remove Google results for you, so this step has to be done separately for every affected URL.

Why is my name on Trellis Law?

Trellis collects dockets, rulings, and filings from thousands of state trial courts and publishes them for legal research. If you were a party to a civil or criminal case in a covered court, your name can appear even if you were never contacted and the case is closed.

Will Trellis delete my case completely?

Usually only if the court has sealed it. Otherwise Trellis redacts your name and personal details, which removes the case from searches for your name. For most people, that is the outcome that matters.

My case was expunged. Why is it still on Trellis?

Expungement orders apply to the court and government agencies, not to private sites that copied the case earlier. Trellis needs to receive the order before it can remove the record. This is one of the most successful types of removal we handle.

How long does Trellis removal take?

Trellis processes requests in the order received and does not publish a set timeframe. Many removals are completed within a few weeks, and the Google cleanup follows once the page changes. Your quote includes an estimated timeline for each link.

How much does Trellis Law removal cost?

Cost depends on how many Trellis pages and other sites list the case and what type of case it is. We give you a free, firm quote per link before any work starts, with discounts for multi-site projects.

Will removing my Trellis case also remove it from UniCourt and Justia?

No. Every site is a separate project with its own policy. That is why our audit lists every copy of the case, so you can clean up all of them at once. See our court records removal service.

What if my case comes back on Trellis?

Docket sites sometimes re-scrape court systems. If a court record we removed is re-posted on the same site, we remove it again at no additional cost.

Is Trellis removal legal? Do I need a lawyer?

Yes, it is legal. We do not alter official court files. We use Trellis’s own redaction policy, search engine removal processes, and your lawful court orders. You only need a lawyer if you want the official court record sealed or expunged. Defamation Defenders is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

Is my case kept confidential?

Yes. Your review is free and confidential, and we never publish client names or case details.
