Can you get a video removed from the internet?
Often, yes. Every major video platform has rules against harassment, privacy violations, impersonation, non-consensual intimate content, and copyright infringement, and most also respond to defamation backed by evidence or a court order. When a video breaks one of those rules, it can come down at the source. Once it’s gone from the source, Google drops it from search and video results.
What doesn’t work is reporting a video as “unfair” or “embarrassing.” Platforms act on specific policy grounds. Our job is to match each video to the right ground, use the right channel for it (privacy form, legal form, copyright notice, or trust-and-safety escalation), and stay on it until it’s resolved.
| Type of video | Usual removal route |
|---|---|
| Video that shows you without consent, or exposes your address or phone number | Platform privacy complaint |
| False claims about you or your business | Defamation report, often with evidence or a court order |
| Intimate or sexual video shared without consent, real or AI-generated | Non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) report; covered platforms must act within 48 hours under the TAKE IT DOWN Act |
| Your own footage re-uploaded by someone else | Copyright (DMCA) notice |
| Old local news broadcast clip | Editorial request to the station, then Google refresh |
| Harassment, threats, or impersonation | Platform community-guideline report |

How our video removal service works
Free assessment
Send us the links. We identify every copy we can find and the strongest removal ground for each.
Firm quote
A flat quote per video before work starts. Pay after removal and payment plans available.
Evidence and filing
We prepare and file privacy, legal, NCII, or copyright requests, and contact publishers directly where that works better.
Copies and re-uploads
We find mirrors and re-uploads and file against those too, so the video doesn’t simply move.
Google clean-up
Once the video is gone at the source, we request removal of the dead URLs and thumbnails from Google.
How to remove a video from Google
Google indexes videos hosted elsewhere, so the most reliable fix is removing the video at the source. Once it’s gone, Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool can clear the old result and thumbnail.
Google will also remove some results directly, even when the video is still up: explicit content shared without consent, AI-generated fake explicit content, and pages exposing certain personal information or doxxing. Google says that when it removes explicit imagery under these policies, it tries to find and remove duplicates as well.
How long video removal takes
| Route | Typical timing |
|---|---|
| NCII report on a covered platform | The TAKE IT DOWN Act requires removal within 48 hours of a valid request |
| Copyright (DMCA) notice | Often days |
| Privacy or harassment report | Days to a few weeks |
| Defamation or legal request | Weeks; faster with a court order |
| News station request | Varies by station; weeks is common |
| Google refresh after removal | Days to a few weeks |
We give you a realistic timeline for your specific videos during the free assessment.

Video removal FAQs
Can you remove a video from the internet?
Often, yes, when the video breaks a platform’s rules or the law: privacy violations, harassment, defamation, non-consensual intimate content, impersonation, or copyright. We remove it at the source and then from Google.
How do I remove a video of me without my consent?
Most platforms accept privacy complaints when you’re clearly identifiable and didn’t consent. YouTube, for example, has a privacy complaint process. If the video is intimate or sexual, it falls under NCII rules, which move much faster.
How fast must platforms remove intimate videos?
Under the TAKE IT DOWN Act, effective May 19, 2026, covered platforms must remove non-consensual intimate images and videos, including AI-generated ones, within 48 hours of a valid request, along with known identical copies.
Can you remove a YouTube video someone posted about me?
Yes, if it violates YouTube’s privacy, harassment, or defamation rules or infringes your copyright. We file through the right YouTube channel and follow up.
Can you remove a news video?
Sometimes. Stations decide what to unpublish, but many will update or remove old clips about dismissed charges, expunged records, or outdated stories. Where they won’t, we can push the clip down in Google.
How do I remove a video from Google search?
Remove it at the source, then use Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool. Google will also remove explicit non-consensual content, fake explicit content, and certain personal-information results directly.
What if the video was re-uploaded?
We search for mirrors and re-uploads and file against each copy. Google and covered platforms also try to remove identical copies of intimate imagery.
How much does video removal cost?
It depends on the platform, the removal ground, and how many copies exist. You get a free assessment and a firm quote first. Pay after removal and payment plans are available.
Do I pay if the video isn’t removed?
No. If we agree to remove a video and can’t, you don’t pay for it or you get your money back.
How long does video removal take?
From 48 hours for intimate content on covered platforms to several weeks for defamation and news requests.
Can I sue the person who posted it?
Possibly, for defamation, invasion of privacy, or NCII, depending on your state. We work with partner attorneys when a court order is the right path.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Your assessment is confidential, and we never contact the uploader without your approval.
Are you a law firm?
No. Defamation Defenders is a reputation management company. When a case needs legal action, we work with partner attorneys.

Defamation Defenders is an online reputation management company, not a law firm, and nothing on this page is legal advice. We are not affiliated with YouTube, Google, Meta, TikTok, Vimeo, X, or any news organization. Removal decisions are made by each platform or publisher under its own policies; we only take on videos we believe can be removed, and we tell you before you pay if one can’t.
