Can you remove an Airbnb review?

Yes, when it violates Airbnb’s Review Policy. Hosts can file a review dispute with Airbnb when a guest review is fake, irrelevant, biased, retaliatory, extortionate, or breaks Airbnb’s Content Policy.

Airbnb says it generally doesn’t mediate disputes about whether a review is accurate, won’t remove a review just because you disagree with the star rating, and may keep reviews that mention things outside your control if they’re useful to future guests. That’s why the dispute has to be built around a specific policy violation.

What Airbnb will and won’t remove

These grounds come from Airbnb’s Review Policy.

1. Retaliatory reviews

Airbnb doesn’t allow reviews written to retaliate against a user for enforcing an Airbnb policy, such as reporting a party, an extra guest, or damage.

2. Extortion and incentives

Guests may not threaten a negative review to get unwarranted compensation, like a refund or discount.

3. Fake and affiliated reviews

Reviews not based on a real reservation, and reviews from people directly affiliated with or in competition with the listing.

4. Irrelevant reviews

Reviews that aren’t about the stay or aren’t based on first-hand experience of the reservation.

5. Content Policy violations

Explicit, discriminatory, harmful, or illegal content.

What Airbnb keeps: subjective opinions about the stay, low star ratings you disagree with, and honest comments about things like noise or location.

  • Save any message that threatens a bad review in exchange for money.
  • Respond publicly to unfair reviews calmly and factually while a dispute is pending.

Pay after removal. Money back if we can’t remove it.

You get a firm quote before any work starts. On pay-after-removal cases there is no upfront fee: you pay once the Airbnb review is confirmed gone. Airbnb review removal FAQs

Can a host remove an Airbnb review?

Hosts can’t delete reviews, but they can file a review dispute. Airbnb removes reviews that are fake, irrelevant, biased, retaliatory, extortionate, or that break its Content Policy.

Will Airbnb remove a retaliatory review?

Airbnb’s Review Policy says users may not write reviews to retaliate against someone for enforcing an Airbnb policy. Documentation is key.

What if a guest threatened a bad review for a refund?

That’s extortion under Airbnb’s policy. Save the messages; they’re the strongest evidence for removal.

Will Airbnb remove a review because the rating is unfair?

No. Airbnb says it won’t remove a review solely because of disagreement with the star rating.

If the review is removed, does the rating go too?

Airbnb says that when a violating review is removed, its ratings and associated content may be removed too.

How much does it cost?

You get a free assessment and a firm quote first. Pay after removal and payment plans are available.

Do I pay if it isn’t removed?

No. On pay-after-removal cases there’s no upfront fee. On prepaid cases, if we agree to remove a review and can’t, you get your money back.

How long does it take?

Most Airbnb disputes we take on resolve within 2 to 6 weeks.

Do you remove VRBO and Booking.com reviews too?

Yes. We quote all platforms together.

Are you a law firm?

No. Defamation Defenders is a reputation management company. When a case needs legal action, we work with partner attorneys.
